Depending on the type of business you operate placing banners on other websites may or may not be appropriate for you. However, we've found that this works for almost all types of business if the banners are placed in the right places.
Banners are no different to bill boards in effect. You place them on websites to catch peoples attention and drive them to your business, in this case, your website.
Web banners have one or two fundamental differences though... They are much cheaper than traditional advertising and can direct people immediately to a page specifically designed for them.

Clearly the most obvious method of promoting a domain is through the use of Google AdWords.
Google Adwords has been established as the market leader in website promotion and advertising and is without doubt the best paid method for driving traffic to your website if used correctly.
This caveat however is something that needs to be borne in mind when using any form of advertising because you could very easily be throwing money into a big black hole and receive little or no return for your investment.
